Anatomy of a Composition - A Deafening Silence
In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the protagonist attempts to literally erase the memory of a deep and complicated relationship, yet the Universe has something else in mind. The two would be lovers, instead of just forgetting about each other, find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another as they attempt to move on from their forlorn past.
As I’ve moved further into a creative space in my life it has only been through the help and confidence of a number of individuals, creatives and friends alike. Photography has taken up a couple of different roles for me, including being a creative outlet and as well as a way to stay connected to the natural world; in both of these capacities their are costs associated with he different choices. From the creative perspective, I devote a lot more time to sitting at a computer, reading, listening to and watching hours worth of material in order to better understand the different processes, techniques and gear that will help my fulfill a creative vision. From the perspective of the returning to the natural world, it means late nights, often overnight, cold winds and temperatures, and hours of driving and just sitting. That’s time I don’t spend with family and friends, or in the pursuit of other interests and hobbies. It is the support of the other loose collection of creatives who continue to give me inspiration, continue to challenge me to go a little further, and continue to set an example of what it means to be a creative.
While this small list by no means covers all those who have been an influence and inspiration, it is worth noting that each of these artists has made a career out of something else, yet found their passion in the creative arts, and push themselves to be the best they possibly can. With that, the silence can in fact be deafening. While I truly believe that creativity is something that inhabits us all, those who risk to take a stand and a share their work with the world deserves the accolades that come with taking such a risk. I would ask that after you read this, take the time to visit the different sites below, and take a moment to leave kind comment, or better yet find a piece of their work that you enjoy and purchase it, or hirer one of them for the services they offer.
I think this is what community means, reveling in the successes of others, while supporting them as they pursue their goals. As always, thank you for following along, and thank you for your support.
