Anatomy of a Composition - Reset
Social Media has many facets - connection, inspiration, audience, and news are just a few of the benefits and pitfalls. As a parent, it was natural to join one platform to stay connected to children and other family matters. As a teacher and one who prides themselves on knowing what is happening in politics, nationally and internationally, having a reliable resource platform is invaluable, with other media platforms offer both creative outlets as well as collaborative and learning opportunities that are enriching though sometimes daunting, even intimidating.
I first shot this setting four years ago, when I was just starting a journey into photography and creativity. The Elk River is not one of those marque sites in Colorado. Remotely located, winter finds it under heaps of snow, and early spring, late summer waters offer habit to the fishing set and their quarry. Over the intervening winters I have made the pilgrimage back here, to find the deep snow and still water underneath, and to breathe in what feels like real winter.
Photography started as a creative outlet, a chance to explore a childhood interest, and without even intending it grew into this - a vision for myself and my future. This path though has had some costs. Balancing the creative expression of a webpage with various social media outlets hasn’t always felt good. Some of the worst elements associated with it have crept into my life over the past few months, and while I’ve worked to limit my time on and interaction in the different platforms, I’ve felt compelled to take a bigger break and ultimately decided that suspending Facebook, Instagram and even Twitter were appropriate steps. This may have looked like an abrupt exit, and I’ll apologize now for that.
As always, thank you for joining me on this journey, and stay safe as we start to re-enter the world. I’ll be having a show again soon, so stay posted for that announcement.
February, 2021 - As always, thank you for joining me on this adventure.
