What Winter Says...

Winter has always been the time of year when I have felt most alive. I moved to Colorado to experience the mountains, but specifically for the winter in the mountains. As my time here has gone on, that has evolved from time on skies, to time with my children to time alone again taking in the outdoor pursuits; pursuits that challenge both my mind and my body.

Some of those pursuits have become more problematic. Simply trying to get to the mountains during the winter requires hours of driving in often slow and difficult traffic. As well, my body doesn’t seem to be as receptive to the grind of long hours on skies, or the running and cycling it takes to prepare for a winter gliding across frozen surfaces. This winter in particular has almost not existed for me. I am in part thankful for a very busy and well traveled 2019 for that. Reflecting on the slow progress of my photo collection so far in 2020, I’ve had the chance to do something I never thought possible, capture engagement images for my son and soon to be daughter-in-law. I’ve captured images of my other son settling into his new life in a distant city. The sunrises and sunsets and windswept vistas I’m used to capturing aren’t as prevalent. But as always, time with those I care most about is much more valuable.
