This years crop of Sunflowers was large, diverse and vibrant, though Mother Nature decided to add a new twist; wildfires. An oppressively dry July gave way to an oppressively hot August, and the two gave way to a rash of fires that combined burned thousands of acres of Colorado forest. In the process the sky was left a series of milky hues, and more often than not, no real sunset took place.

Add to this the pandemic, with it’s own travel limitations, and the DIA sunflower fields became a spectacle of gawkers and photographers, some doing a better job than others of respecting private property, and trying to avoid the congested roads and reduce the headaches for the farmers and law enforcement. I can only hope for my calm next year, and this same subtle beauty.
