Anatomy of a Composition - November Sunrise (Panorama)

Lookout Mountain is an easy destination for a Denver sunrise. It feels so familiar and it is quick to get to on most mornings, this one was not an exception. October and November tent to have vibrant colors as the day changes; it seems that dawn and dusk are in competition these months for our attention.

Hoping to take advantage of a Sunday with few obligations, waking up early and heading out in the pre-dawn hours without a definitive plan was an easy enough choice. The mornings’ clouds were moving in a variety of layers, so setting up a time lapse was the first priority. While that camera clicked off a few more than 500 images, I used a second camera to frame up this and a few different panoramas, as well as some other, single compositions.

This was shot on a 50mm lens, which has become a new favorite lens this fall, and was patient enough to use the tripod and use the metering and focusing in the camera to their best potential. The 10 images from the lookout over Golden, shows the overnight lights still on, and the low clouds from the cooler air condensing over close to the ground.

Just as a reminder, this year’s calendar is now available and they are ready to ship! It features a collection of shots taken each month from around Colorado to share the unique beauty of the state throughout the entire year. You can preview a Web Gallery for all of the images inside this year’s calendar.

November, 2021 - As always, thank you for the support and for joining me on this adventure.
