A Year of Milky Way - 2020

When I am out, I tend to shoot a lot of time lapse photography. If you’ve browsed my webpages you have seen many of these clips, and they are usually short, 12 to 24 seconds longs. I enjoy seeing the compression of time and while there are many more sophisticated ways to present a time lapse, I haven’t experimented too much beyond the simple, static set of images.

Combining astrophotography and a time lapse adds a real layer of complexity to a night’s outing, but it is an even more dramatic examination of the night sky. 2020 certainly offered many challenges, and these challenges, from the lock-down, to wild fires, to temperamental nights skies, along with changes in my own equipment, lead me to shooting fewer time lapse sequences, though I actually shot a good deal more night sky images than in previous years.

The highlight of the night sky was certainly the NEOWISE comet, and while I have a number of beautiful stills of the comet, capturing it in motion in the night sky proved very, very challenging.

Here is a short video compilation of my favorite time lapse from 2020. As always, thank you for joining me on this journey, and I hope you enjoy this short feature - this is the first that I’ve brought out in this format.

February, 2021 - As always, thank you for joining me on this adventure.
